Flow Analysis

CFD Marine AS works continuously to develop tools for numerical flow calculations. The technology is rapidly evolving and occasionally leads us to projects bordering on basic research. This is possible thanks to the smooth cooperation with clients and software suppliers. Together with other expertise in our network, we are involved in the entire value chain, from idea to finished product.

CFD-based

At the core of our expertise is the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software. CFD makes it possible to calculate the behaviour of liquids and gases in motion and how they affect objects such as hulls, platforms, lifeboats and other marine installations. CFD is also an ideal tool for analysing air currents on land and at sea. Increasing computing capacity opens up for ever new applications.

Model testing

CFD-based flow analyses replace or supplement traditional model tests (1:10 scale) in wave tanks and wind tunnels. Used in conjunction with full-scale prototype testing, the CFD can save time and shorten the number of steps to the final construction.

Simulation

CFD calculations make it possible to visualize the effects of weather and wind, waves and currents on installations and vessels. Simulations of currents offer designers and engineers an important basis for optimal design decisions. Increasingly powerful computing power makes simulations more and more precise and enables quality assurance of design without extensive model testing.

Documentation and quality

CFD calculations and other statistics are gathered in a complete project documentation, made available in easy-to-read reports. The CFD-based methodology has a very high level of precision and allows multiple simultaneous and overlapping simulations. The methodology is checked and adjusted continuously by comparing the calculations with results from real product tests.
